Baby situation upgrade

It's an odd feeling watch a brain leap its way into existence.

Baby Sharon grabbed my hand with both of her hands and held it (I was holding a pacifier at the time). Crazy to be confronted with such a significant increase in her capacity for thinking and doing, while simultaneously realizing the insignificance of the act itself; forcing me to recognize the complexity of even the smallest step and act.

Next step, poetry.

4 things my daughter is now able to do (and wasn't at birth)

1. Move her own head
2. Stay awake for a reason other than expressing displeasure/discomfort
3. Poop on me
4. Get out of a swaddle

Closing of the first week, and opening of the second

Jeni and I set this blog up as a space to record our thoughts and experiences as we begin to have and raise our own family. It's tough to believe how much has already happened!

Sharon Rose Abramson was born at 8:05pm on 9/29/09 (an auspicious date if there ever was one; although my attempts to delay delivery until 9:29pm weren't met with great regard). The birth was natural, and all went quite well (considering the procedure itself). Sharon decided to express herself, and her lungs, without so much as a tap from the doctor.

Plenty of pictures were taken (and posted), and I somehow managed to get a picture, which is nearly identical to one taken of me at birth with my father (login and friending me required)!

As of today (Monday 10/5/09) she was almost back up to her birth weight. In case that sounds weird to you, apparently babies tend to lose weight for the first week, and then start building up after that.

The first week officially will draw to a close at 8pm Tuesday. Looking forward to what the next week brings.
